Platoon- 1987

Oliver Stone’s take on the Vietnam war followed the lead of Apocalypse Now! in examining the psychological struggle of warfare rather than the battles themselves. The movie, like the war, was polarizing: it tended to be vindicated by conservatives as a propaganda piece while lauded by liberals as a probing insight into the true nature of the war. Either way, the film was a technical masterpiece: it garnered four Academy Awards and was a major foundation for the realism movement in the war genre.
